MACOMB COUNTY, MI – Authorities responded to a head-on collision Saturday afternoon in Sterling Heights that claimed the life of a 75-year-old woman, according to ClickOnDetroit.

The accident took place on Utica Road near Forester Street on November 9 at about 4:15 p.m.

Sterling Heights police said the woman, of Roseville, was operating a light blue hatchback westbound on Utica Road when, for reasons still unclear, she veered past the centerline. Moments later, the hatchback collided head-on with a black sport utility vehicle.

First responders pronounced the Roseville woman deceased at the scene. She was determined to have been the only person in the vehicle.

Crews with the Sterling Heights Fire Department administered treatment to the occupants of the utility vehicle for injuries considered minor.

An investigation remains underway, but officials said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have contributed to the wreck.

MONROE COUNTY, MI – Emergency crews were dispatched to multiple collisions Tuesday morning, November 12, on Interstate 75 in Monroe County, according to ClickOnDetroit.

The initial wreck was reported on the northbound side of I-75 at Swan Creek Road, in the Newport area, prompting a closure of the road at about 6:00 a.m.

Officials with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) indicated that due to the scene, two left southbound lanes of the highway at Huron River Drive were also blocked.

Shortly after the closures were reported, MDOT alerted commuters to an additional crash on I-75 at the I-275 interchange.

At this time, no information about the circumstances of the events has been shared. No injuries have been confirmed.

DETROIT, MI – A suspected drunken driver is facing charges following a wreck Saturday afternoon in north Detroit that claimed the life of a 7-year-old boy, reports Patch.

The fatal collision unfolded at the corner of East Seven Mile Road and Mound Road, prompting an emergency response shortly after 4:30 p.m.

Detroit police said a 25-year-old man was behind the wheel of a car that crashed into two other vehicles.

A 7-year-old boy who was a passenger in one car was pronounced deceased at the scene. His 5-year-old sister, who was traveling in the same vehicle, was rushed to an area hospital with critical injuries, along with three other adult occupants, who suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the other victim vehicle sustained minor injuries, but no other details have been provided.

Officials noted that while the causing driver initially fled the scene, he returned about two hours later.

An investigation into the wreck remains in progress, but alcohol is believed to have played a role.

DETROIT, MI – Parts of southbound State Route 39 in northwest Detroit were blocked Thursday morning following a collision, according to MDOT – Metro Detroit.

The accident occurred at Exit 9 to Joy Road, in the city’s Franklin Park area. It was first reported at about 9:22 a.m.

Little information has been shared with the public, but officials indicated that the right southbound lane and entrance ramp were shut as a result of the wreck.

DETROIT, MI – Two people died early Thursday, November 7, following a high-speed rollover crash in northeast Detroit, according to ClickOnDetroit.

Detroit Police said the accident happened at the corner of Mt. Elliott Street and E Forest Avenue shortly after 4 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates that one vehicle was traveling southbound on Mt. Elliott Street. As it approached E Forest Avenue, it collided with another vehicle and overturned before catching fire.

Officials confirmed that the driver of the speeding car, who was ejected in the impact, succumbed to their injuries at the scene. His passenger, who was left trapped in the fiery crash, was also pronounced deceased.

First responders rushed the driver of the second vehicle to an area hospital where their condition remains undisclosed.

Crews had the intersection shut down in the immediate aftermath. By 7:00 a.m., the closure remained intact.

DETROIT, MI – One person was hospitalized after they were involved in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday night in Detroit while delivering ballots, according to CBS News Detroit.

The accident happened at the intersection of West Grand Boulevard and Linwood Street, in the Wildemere Park area.

While details are limited and it’s unclear what led up to the wreck, Detroit police said the victim, an election worker, was an occupant in a vehicle carrying a number of ballots that were stored inside a locked transfer case.

Officials said the injured occupant was transported to an area hospital for injuries deemed non-life-threatening.

According to Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey, the ballots and a memory card storing data were collected at the scene. All materials were either retrieved by election workers and/or delivered to the Department of Elections.

INGHAM COUNTY, MI – Four people lost their lives as a result of a multi-vehicle collision late Monday on Interstate 96 near east Lansing, reports CBS News Detroit.

The events unfolded on the westbound lanes of I-96 that run near M-52, in the Webberville area. Michigan State Police said first responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after 11:45 p.m.

Preliminary details show a semi-truck was traveling westbound with a trailer attached when, for reasons still unclear, it collided with a number of vehicles that were stalled during a traffic back. Officials said the semi driver had failed to notice the stopped vehicles in time.

The semi and multiple other vehicles caught fire as a result of the impact. Officials noted that as many as 15 vehicles were involved.

Four people, including Lansing residents, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The decedents were described as a 20-year-old woman, a 43-year-old woman, a 47-year-old man, and a 29-year-old Carson City man.

As many as 17 people, including the semi driver, were rushed to area hospital for major injuries.

Investigators noted that utility workers were unharmed in the incident.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – Authorities responded to a pedestrian collision Sunday morning in northeast Rochester Hills that left a 72-year-old man severely injured, reports Patch.

The incident occurred as the man was crossing Avon Road on foot near Rochester Road, at about 6:45 a.m.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, a 28-year-old man from Colombia was driving a 2013 Ford Focus northbound on Rochester Road when the car hit the male pedestrian.

The victim, who was “gravely injured” by the impact, was rushed by first responders to an area hospital. No further updates on the patient’s condition have been released.

While officials released the driver, who was determined by the U.S. Customs and Border Control to be in the U.S. illegally, the sheriff’s office said he is expected to appear in federal court for a hearing.

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – An 80-year-old woman lost her life as a result of a two-vehicle collision Wednesday in Napoleon Township that left her husband seriously hurt, reports WILX.

The fatal accident unfolded at Brooklyn Road and Napoleon Road on October 30.

According to officials, an 79-year-old Napoleon man, identified as the decedent’s husband, was driving a Kia SUV southbound on Napoleon Road. At one point, he appeared to make a left turn onto eastbound Brooklyn Road, causing the Kia to enter the direct path of a semi-truck.

While the semi driver, a 40-year-old Ironwood resident, attempted to avoid the Kia, the two vehicles collided.

The 80-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Kia, was pronounced deceased shortly after being taken to Henry Ford Hospital.

Both drivers were also rushed to the hospital, where the Kia driver’s condition was last listed as serious but stable. The driver of the semi has since been released, indicating more minor injuries.

No further information has been released as of this writing.

DETROIT, MI – Emergency crews were called to an accident in a construction zone late Thursday morning in southwest Detroit, according to TTWN Detroit.

The incident occurred on the northbound side of Interstate 75, between Springwells Street (Exit 45) and Livernois Avenue (Exit 46), in the city’s Springwells area. It was first captured by traffic cameras at about 11:55 a.m.
