MACOMB COUNTY, MI – One driver fled a traffic stop was left critically injured after a multi-vehicle wreck late Wednesday morning in Warren that hurt at least two others, reports ClickOnDetroit.
The collision unfolded on the southbound lanes of Mound Road at 9 Mile Road on May 29, at about 11:15 a.m.
Preliminary details indicate that a Warren Police Department officer had attempted to pull over a blue 2006 Dodge Charger at 10 Mile Road but its driver failed to stop, continuing southbound on Mound. Officials said the officer made a decision not to pursue the fleeing vehicle, but later encountered the crash one block farther south.
Warren firefighters had to extricate the driver of the Charger, which collided with a commercial truck and a minivan. He was then rushed to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
All other involved occupants of the other vehicles sustained minor injuries, but it’s unclear whether any of the patients had to be taken to a hospital.
An investigation remains underway, but police said a bottle of alcohol was recovered from the floorboard on the driver’s side of the Charger. A blood draw was administered and results are pending.
