How to prove fault in a Michigan car accident

If you have recently been involved in a car accident, you may be considering filing a lawsuit to get the damages that you deserve. To do so successfully, you will need to show that the other driver was at fault for the car accident.

If you can prove this, it's likely that you will be able to gain back damages for vehicle repair or replacement, medical bills and lost wages, and additional compensation for the pain and suffering caused. The following are three ways to prove fault after a vehicle collision.

Look to statements in police reports

The police should be called after any vehicle collision. One clear advantage of getting the police involved is that any statements that they make could be used to support your claim that the other driver was at fault.

Show that a rear-end or left-turn collision occurred

If a left-turn or rear-end collision occurred, establishing fault should be very simple. The law tends to support the driver in front when a rear-end collision occurs. Additionally, the driver making the left-turn before being involved in a collision is usually found to be at fault.

Show that a traffic violation occurred

If a driver did not observe a stop sign or was driving under the influence of alcohol, it's likely that you will be able to show that they were responsible for the causation of the accident.

It's important that you are persistent in your approach if you want to successfully gain damages after a serious car accident. Make sure that you are fully prepared by understanding the law.
