When most people think of a car crash, they usually think of the drivers exchanging information or victims being transported to local hospitals. In Detroit last week, a 20-year-old woman allegedly pulled out in front of a vehicle traveling south on Linwood, causing a crash.
The victim pulled over into a gas station parking lot, as did the 20-year-old. What started as a verbal argument quickly became physical, according to a statement from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
The statement went to say that two passengers from the 20-year-old’s vehicle got out, went over to the victim and “struck, beat and stomped” her.
Before police could arrive at the scene, the 20-year-old and her passengers allegedly fled the scene. The victim was transported to the hospital. Her condition is unknown.
The woman was eventually arrested and arraigned on several charges, including aggravated assault, intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and failure to stop at an accident scene. Her bond was set at $25,000.
Victims of motor vehicle crashes can seek compensation from the at-fault driver. However, when someone is injured due to an attack by another person, they also have a right to seek compensation for their injuries, lost wages, emotional trauma and more. Criminal charges do not have to be filed for such a case to be successful, but it can help make a victim’s case stronger.
If you or a loved one suffered an injury due to a car crash that wasn’t your fault, an attorney can help you learn more about your legal options.
