A man in Michigan is being hailed as a hero after he protected a couple who was trapped in their vehicle by a second car, which had caught on fire.
The man works for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, as their head of design. He was driving a Jeep Wrangler when he came across the car accident in the early morning. A Ford Edge and a Ford Fiesta has crashed.
The man stopped and attempted to get a couple out of the smashed vehicle, but the doors were all jammed.
That’s when things took a turn for the worse. A 26-year-old in a Buick sedan slammed into the stopped vehicles. The Edge caught on fire. The driver in that SUV got out, but the couple in the Fiesta was still stuck, and now they were in immediate danger from the fire.
Knowing the fire department could still be a ways off, the man jumped back into his Wrangler and used it like a battering ram, slamming the burning Edge out of the way and pushing it a safe distance from the car.
The couple was married, and that move may have saved the husband’s life. He was taken to McLaren Oakland hospital, and he’s now in stable condition. Tragically, though his wife made it to the hospital, she later passed away from her injuries. She was 57 years old.
Per the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the 36-year-old man who was driving the Edge said he had been drinking. He’s accused of causing the deadly DUI accident.
This story shows just how quickly numerous people can get dragged into a single accident scene. Those who are seriously injured, or who lose loved ones in these accidents, must know their legal rights.
