Man sentenced for fatal crash where Camaro landed on another car

On Behalf of | Feb 2, 2018 | Catastrophic Injury And Wrongful Death |

A man was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Camaro when it left the roadway and landed on top of another vehicle, killing two people who were in that car.

Both of those who passed away in the crushed vehicle were 20 years old, a man and a woman. The man who was driving the Camaro is 37 years old. Two other people were hurt in the accident and had to be taken to local medical centers. There were five people, in total, in the second car.

The man has now been sentenced. He was facing two counts on all of the following charges:

  • Operating under the influence and causing a deadly accident.
  • Operating under the influence and causing others to suffer from serious injuries.
  • Second-degree murder.

According to those who carried out the investigation after the accident, the man was driving his sports car in a 25 mph zone. He was, however, allegedly going 92 miles per hour. That’s in addition to being under the influence.

The man opted to enter a no contest plea. He was given a sentence that will put him behind bars for 10 to 30 years.

He did speak to the family of the victims in court, saying he felt bad about what he had done and he wished he could take it back. He claimed he spent time every day praying that they — the surviving family members — could find joy and peace after the accident.

When a loved one is seriously injured or killed due to someone else’s reckless action, it’s important for family members to understand all of the legal options at their disposal.
