Those who drive for a living are constantly aware of the potential dangers from other drivers. This includes mail carriers, who must pull to the side of the road to deliver customers’ packages, letters and bills.
On Feb. 8, a 63-year-old mail carrier was stopped while delivering mail on Utica Road in Roseville, which is a little under an hour’s drive from Rochester. The postman’s truck was struck by a Dodge Durango that was being driven by an 87-year-old man.
According to local police, the postal truck had its flashers on and operating when the crash occurred. The driver of the Dodge reportedly was uninjured, but the postman was not so fortunate. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Police do not believe that the man who struck the postal truck was intoxicated or distracted. It is not known if there will be any charges filed in the accident.
When an accident occurs, those who are seriously injured may not be able to work. They may experience significant pain and suffering and medical expenses could quickly become staggering. When this happens, filing a case for compensation from the at-fault party may be considered.
For those who are injured and the family members of those who are killed in car crashes, there does not need to a criminal case filed against the negligent driver in order for the victim or his or her family to file a civil suit for compensation. However, a civil case can become stronger when there is a conviction in a criminal case. An experienced attorney can help victims learn more about their legal options and how to proceed.
