Ambulance runs stop sign, hits car, and sails off a bridge

An ambulance in Michigan reportedly blew through a stop sign, causing a fatal accident. It hit a car with a 21-year-old man behind the wheel.

The impact was so violent that the ambulance went out of control and sailed over the edge of a bridge. It landed in a river. There were two people inside, and both workers suffered serious injuries. The crash happened on Monday, Oct. 16 around 6:25 a.m.

Authorities originally thought they were going to need to airlift the injured people from the site, but other ambulances arrived and took them to local medical centers. While the two in the first ambulance lived, the man in the car that was struck tragically passed away.

He leaves behind a young daughter. The woman he planned to marry is pregnant with their son.

The Michigan State Police are looking into the accident, trying to find out why the ambulance did not stop at the sign as it should have. Though the investigation is not over yet, there is speculation that fog may have played a role.

The two emergency workers in the ambulance were in the cold creek water after the crash, and reports show that they have hypothermia to go along with their other injuries.

When an accident takes a life, it's always tragic, but stories like this -- with the young family left behind -- show how far-reaching an accident can be. It's important for family members to know what legal rights they may have to compensation at this trying time as they face medical bills, funeral costs and lost wages.
