OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – Two women aged 42 and 31 died last Friday afternoon, October 18, after a collision in Waterford Township that left a 3-year-old seriously hurt, reports ClickOnDetroit.
The accident happened near Jones Road and Hatchery Road, prompting an emergency response just after 5:00 p.m.
According to local police, the 42-year-old woman was driving a 2019 Polaris-RZR northbound and at a high rate of speed when the off-road vehicle veered off the roadway. Moments later, it collided with a tree, causing two passengers, a 31-year-old woman and a 3-year-old girl, to eject.
The 42-year-old driver, who was trapped in the vehicle as a result of the impact, was pronounced deceased at the scene. First responders rushed the 31-year-old passenger to a local hospital where she also succumbed to her injuries. Officials say the child, who was taken to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital, is expected to survive.
An investigation into the circumstances of the wreck remains underway, but none of the occupants is believed to have worn a seatbelt at the time.
