WAYNE COUNTY, MI – A 16-year-old boy lost his life Thursday afternoon after colliding with a vehicle while operating a moped in Taylor, reports Audacy.
The fatal incident unfolded near Ecorse Road and Telegraph Road at about 4:00 p.m.
According to Taylor Police, the teen was on a moped traveling westbound on Ecorse. At one point, he approached a vehicle that was turning left onto the ramp for southbound Telegraph Road.
Despite the teen’s attempts to “put the bike down” to avoid a crash, the vehicles collided.
While the other driver stopped, administered aid, and alerted the authorities, the teen driver succumbed to their injuries. First responders found that the victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Officials say the surviving driver cooperated with an investigation. A number of witnesses said the teen had traveled into the intersection even after the traffic light turned red and drivers had begun entering Telegraph.
